Keep it in your drawers

Since we moved into rental house #2, I’ve made an important discovery – drawers in the kitchen rock!

I don’t know how I’ve lived with cabinet doors for so long – drawers make it so much easier to find what you’re looking for. Just pull the drawer open, and voila, everything is right there in front of you. No digging around and pulling things out to find that big bowl that you need way at the back.

So I guess it’s a good thing that we’ve been so slow with building our house – if we’d already had our kitchen cabinets made, we wouldn’t be able to re-make them with lots of drawers. I’m totally set on having as many drawers as possible! Drawers in the island…

Kitchen contemplation – Cabinets

We’re still a long way off from decorating our house – it’s not even a hole on the ground yet! But I’ve been saving inspiration pictures for the last 1-1/2 years, and thought it would be nice to take a break from the build stuff to share some of my ideas.

First up is the kitchen. This is a tough one – it’s one of those rooms where you REALLY want to make sure you get it right, because it’s not so easy to change it up a few years down the road. That being said, I’m seriously leaning towards blue cabinets. We’re only going to have lower cabinets, no uppers. The main kitchen wall is going to be all windows from the tops of the countertops up to the ceiling, so there won’t be a tiled backsplash. So blue cabinets would be a great way to bring colour into the kitchen.

I really like the combination of cobalt blue, grey, white, and light wood in this kitchen.

I was also thinking of maybe going with light stained wood cabinets, but I think we’ll have enough wood in the house with ceiling beams and hardwood flooring. Although I do really like this look too….

And let’s not even get started on countertops and appliances and faucets and flooring… so many decisions to make and we’ve barely started!
